Circular Economy in injection moulding
Efficient plastics recycling - sustainable production
Together with other market participants, ENGEL has been actively involved in the Circular Economy and the reduction of the CO2 footprint for years. This goal requires close cooperation across the whole value chain. For ENGEL, supporting its customers along the entire product life cycle is a key concern: from component design and sampling to production and maintenance & service.
Each participant in the value chain has a specific role to play. As an injection moulding machine manufacturer and system solver, ENGEL assumes responsibility for three areas: The overall efficiency of the injection moulding production cell, the digitalisation of injection moulding processes and processing technologies.
)
Whether servo-hydraulic, hybrid or fully electric: ENGEL injection moulding machines are among the most efficient of their size and performance class on the market. Servo-hydraulic machines already consume less than 60% of a hydraulic injection moulding machine with a fixed displacement pump. With all-electric injection moulding machines, power consumption can even be more than halved on average. With a precisely coordinated temperature control solution, even more energy-saving potential can be achieved.
)
The self-optimising injection moulding machine is a key driver of Circular Economy. It is about avoiding rejects and increasing energy efficiency. Our digital solutions from the inject 4.0 programme help to automatically reduce influences on the process. Recyclates can thus be used for a wider range of applications than before.
)
The processing of plastic waste usually requires less energy than that from fossil sources. The use of recycled material therefore has a direct positive effect on the CO2 balance. This is why ENGEL's in-house development focuses on solutions for recycling and upcycling. Successful examples include the skinmelt and foilmelt technology with up to 100% recycled raw material or the two-stage process in which plastic waste is processed as regrind directly after grinding.
)
ENGEL offers facilitated retrofits and assists with the appropriate disposal of the machine. We pursue the goal of developing a practical concept for upgrading older machines with, for example, more energy-saving drive or control systems. In this way, inefficient machines are to be reconditioned and further used instead of being disposed of.
)
Due to the high complexity of the products and materials, it is important to conduct regular training. ENGEL's Circular Economy training courses range from the reduction of wear materials to the correct use and handling of recyclates. ENGEL offers analyses and consultations especially for recycled materials, which have higher fluctuations in their properties.
