ENGEL Sustainability Report

The sustainability report summarizes all efforts in an overall strategy. It underlines the importance of the topic in the plastics industry.

Sustainability in the plastics industry

ENGEL as an enabler of a Circular Economy

Plastic is a valuable resource. Far too valuable to dispose of it after a single use. Therefore, it is vital for the future to create a Circular Economy. ENGEL provides innovative machine concepts and technologies. With their help, recycled plastic, as regrind or regranulate, can be processed reliably.

Our technologies enable "design for recycling." It means that our customers' products can be returned to the cycle at the end of their service life.

Thanks to the machines and technologies by ENGEL, used plastics can be processed reliably and plastic cycles can be closed.

Strong partner in the supply chain

The sustainability goal is further supported by close cooperation between companies along the value chain. Market players network on platforms to exchange information and data: from raw material production and processing to recycling and even further towards retail and the consumer.

50 Sustainability & Climate Leaders

Sustainability is firmly anchored in our corporate philosophy. By including ENGEL in the group of 50 Climate Leaders, Bloomberg is honoring this commitment and giving the industrial commitment to climate and environmental protection greater public attention.

JKU LIT Factory

The LIT Factory of the Linz Institute of Technology (LIT) at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz is a networked teaching, learning and research factory for smart polymer processing and digitalization. ENGEL is a long-standing partner and sponsor of the institute and conducts research with its own test facilities on site.

R-Cycle

With digital product passports, R-Cycle creates the basis for a high-quality recycling process by automatically recording recycling-relevant information as early as the product manufacturing stage. A prerequisite for closing material cycles is information transparency along the entire value chain.

Platform Packaging with a Future

All players along the value chain in Austria need to join forces to close the loop. To ensure that packaging does not end up in the environment but is returned to the product cycle, new effective alliances must be formed. This is why ENGEL, as a Packaging with a Future platform member, is working for the first time with new partners along the value chain from its location in Austria.

New Plastics Economy

In mid-March 2019, ENGEL became one of the first companies in the plastics machinery industry to sign the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's global commitment to the New Plastics Economy. Together with more than 350 companies, universities and organizations, this cooperation is committed to the circular economy and sustainability worldwide.

Alliance to End Plastic Waste

The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) consists of around 50 major global companies - ENGEL is one of them. The alliance's primary goal is to reduce or prevent environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.

EcoVadis Rating

ENGEL is one of the most sustainable industrial companies worldwide. This was confirmed by the current sustainability ranking on the EcoVadis platform. ENGEL has improved its ranking from silver to gold and is the only injection moulding machine manufacturer with gold status to date.

Environmental Social Governance

Our vision is a sustainable and, at the same time, profitable plastics industry. End consumers worldwide should be able to trust that they are using clean plastic products in their everyday lives. Products that are manufactured in a resource-preserving way and whose supply or value chains are ethically correct. This is how we ensure prosperity, especially for our successor generations.
