The ENGEL HL Awards 2009 were presented on 27th May against the backdrop of the ENGEL Symposium 09. As the highlight of the ENGEL evening at the Linz Design Center, the awards were presented to companies that use ENGEL injection moulding machines with tie-bar-less clamping units and that apply the concept in an especially innovative and economic manner. Gold, silver and bronze went – in this order – to Braun GmbH in Walldurn/Germany, to Oechsler AG in Ansbach/Germany and to Härter-Mecutec GmbH & Co KG in Albstadt/Germany.

The ongoing recession continues to hit the industry heavily. Despite this, ENGEL again succeeded in expanding its market share considerably in the past financial year. On top of this, due to an extremely positive first sixth months in 2008/09, a turnover of some 591 million Euros was achieved. Plastics with modified characteristics play an increasingly important role in the industry. Mineral additives or glass fibres in particular are very demanding on the wear resilience of the plasticising components. ENGEL now offers carbide coating for screws under the "ENGEL onyx" product name. This improved both the coating toughness and the bonding force by 300 percent. At the same time, further improvements of abrasion resilience were achieved. "Onyx screws" are available in the 25 to 70 mm diameter range.

ENGEL AUSTRIA GmbH has been manufacturing injection moulding machines for about 50 years. The company has since become one of the world's largest manufacturers in this sector. An important milestone has now been achieved with the delivery of the machine bearing the production No. 70,000. It was an ENGEL victory 4550/600 tech which was handed over to representatives of Rosti Technical Plastics UK Ltd. in St. Valentin recently.

Maximum power on a minimal footprint – this is what ENGEL duo machines have represented for years. And very successfully. A very special anniversary provided the perfect backdrop to underline this success story: the delivery of the 2000th ENGEL duo machine to the BMW Landshut plant. On the occasion of an official visit, the machine – an ENGEL duo 23050/4000 for manufacturing dashboards with an integrated safety net to cover the airbag – was officially handed over at the end of July.
