Engel's custom systems offer high quality custom solutions for any application involving an injection moulding machine. From insert placing, through assembly, labelling and packaging tasks, through to quality assurance by means of cameras or weighing systems, or even compound systems with several machines and/or several robots working together, ENGEL offers any kind of automation as a general contractor.
Engel's Project Management and Technology Department guarantees the right choice of linear and articulated arm robots, and as a consequence is fully capable of programming the right robot type with their tried and trusted, user-friendly user interface.
Dura Automotive CZ, k.s., Strakonice/Czech Republic: At its base in Strakonice in southern Bohemia, Dura Automotive is saving assembly and logistical costs and raising the quality of its components thanks to multi-component injection molding and the integration of processing stages into a single manufacturing cell. Having commissioned a pair of highly integrated systems in the past year, ENGEL is delivering a third manufacturing cell. Two ENGEL duo 900 large injection molding machines, each equipped with an ENGEL viper 40 linear robot, are positioned in parallel; between these are the units required for the post-production of injection moulded parts: one laser system , two plasma treaters and two six-axis robots along with one foam sealing unit and a curing oven. ENGEL supplied the necessary equipment as a complete package, and also integrated a subsystem provided by Dura into the overall concept.
Johnson Controls Interiors GmbH & Co. KG, Grefrath/Germany: As much as possible from a single source – this was the idea behind Johnson Controls' investment in a new Grefrath-based production facility for the production of dashboard carriers for the Daimler brand's volume models in 2010. ENGEL's scope of supply included an ENGEL duo injection moulding machine, the complete automation and the integration of an existing large-scale machine into the overall concept. The special thing about the system is its compact footprint. Two large-scale machines, four jointed-arm robots, a mould changing system, two quality assurance stations, and two conveyor-belts fit into an area of just 15 by 18 metres. To make this possible, the system makes full use of the shop height.
ZIMK – Zehdenick Innovative Metall- und Kunststofftechnik GmbH, Zehdenick/Germany: The specialist for punching and hybrid products manufactures PCBs for the automotive industry on this system. The highly integrated production cell was supplied by ENGEL as a turn-key system. It comprises two ENGEL insert injection moulding machines with a vertical layout, a multiple axis industrial robot, an ENGEL Pick & Place robot, processing stations for the metal components, quality assurance equipment, and packaging and pellet handling systems.
Mobis Slovakia s.r.o., Zilina / Slovakia: Example of a production cell on an ENGEL duo large-scale machine. An ENGEL ERC 134 with two vertical axes is used for simultaneous insert-placing of metal parts into the injection moulding machine, for take-off, and for hand-over of the composite parts to the downstream finishing station.
