Georg Schwarz in the Plastics Hall of Fame
Georg Schwarz – the owner of ENGEL AUSTRIA GmbH received a very special accolade on 22nd June 2009. On the occasion of the NPE in Chicago, his name was added to the "Plastics Hall of Fame". The implementation of visionary ideas and internationalisation of ENGEL Austria GmbH characterised Georg Schwarz’s career. In recognition of his service to the company and the plastics industry as a whole, he has now received the highest award the plastics industry can give.

As of 1972, the Plastics Academy Hall of Fame has honoured personalities who have made substantial contributions to the growth and success of the plastics industry. Besides Nobel Prize winners and the inventors of plastics which are now in daily use, the list includes founders and formative personalities with leading chemicals and mechanical engineering companies. And Georg Schwarz is one of them.
A Life Dedicated to Progress
Born in Essegg in 1928, Georg Schwarz moves to Austria in 1945. After marrying Irene Engel he joins the family business in 1951. Soon after this, he starts to establish a global sales network, thus laying down the foundations for Engel's success today. Untiring in his drive, Georg Schwarz pushes the business towards internationalisation, setting up production facilities in Austria, Canada, the USA, Korea, China, and the Czech Republic. Staff figures have grown almost ten-fold in this time. ENGEL is now the global leader in injection moulding machine manufacturing and has a 24 percent market share in Europe and America. Enormous personal dedication and entrepreneurial foresight characterise his work. Even today, Georg Schwarz is active within the business every day, and his experience is an enormous aid to the company group.
Enrolled in the Plastics Hall of Fame
On the occasion of the NPE, 22nd June in Chicago, Georg Schwarz - along with eight other personalities from the plastics industry - was officially enrolled in the Plastics Hall of Fame. Georg Schwarz accepted the award personally, and expressed his pride in the fact that Engel's innovative drive, untiring entrepreneurial activity and sustained success had been recognised in this way.
